This is a legendary film so there was a lot of hype going in to watch it. But there doesn't seem to be much of a story arc, message, or even a plot. I googled and of course it was a book that was crammed into a children's animated film. So that's why. There are clearly tons of great archetypes and premises but without the background knowledge of the original work they will all fall flat. Here are some quotes that I liked:
"I don't feel regret only sorrow." "Magic, do as you will." "Men don't always know when they're happy but i think so."
The unicorn species can't feel regret, only sorrow. I just like this 'cuz I have no regrets and appreciate every negative thing that made me who I am today. Maybe that can be the moral you teach your kids for resiliency's sake? The "Magic, do as you will" is the incantation the wizard had to say to have it work. They anthropomorphized the will of the magic, so maybe this can be like going with the flow of life. When you pray or try to manifest a future you want, you don't always get what you want, but "you get what you need." There's a balance we all have to find when tapping into God's will. Alan Watts Lecture - Give Away Control and You Will Have It. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MorzKWSxpoo The last quote is what the wizard kid said when someone asked if he was happy. It's just fitting. We don't always know what truly makes us happy and often our desires - when granted - don't bring us any more happiness. Another great teaching moment for kids. Other than those things, it's merely interesting animation with a weird vibe since it's retro. At least it's not propaganda targeting your kids though. So watch it and support it and get the book.
