The film begins with Master Oogway in the spirit world. Kai, an old friend of Oogway, who wants to become more powerful by taking the life force, or chi, from every Kung Fu master. Kai has the fatal flaw of pride in his life, he is hungry for more power and control. Kai will present a new challenge for Po: a spiritual challenge. In this world, Chi is the energy that flows through all living things, but also belongs to each person (the characters speak about “my chi” and “your chi” as separate). Mastery of Chi requires mastery of self. However, chi can also be given or taken between individuals. As Oogway tells Kai “the more you take, the less you have.”
