Kung Fu Panda was a turning point for Dreamworks, a studio which had historically created lackluster animated films. Kung Fu Panda is notably different - a film that has excellent animation, a great storyline, is family friendly and, best of all, is just a great movie.
The animators traveled to China to prior to making the film, modeling the environments and architecture on real things they saw. They were also inspired by water color paintings and ancient Chinese art. However, the China in the film is not a historically accurate rendition of China, it’s more a mythologized and romanticized depiction of the idea of ancient China.
