Most creative Star Wars has been since Return of the Jedi

When Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out I remember hoards of people disliking the film. An anti-white, anti-male, quid pro woke extravaganza that's only purpose is to radicalize innocent, unassuming viewers into members of the so-called "resistance" against Trump. People I know who like the movie gave the world tirades about how great the film is and if you don't like it then you're a Nazi.   So what happens if you came out of the film thinking it was the best out of all the sequel films being Episodes VII to IX?   Star Wars has always been a left-leaning franchise from a disgruntled Californian's basis in 1977 to serving the neo-liberal consensus today. What I said about Return of the Jedi had to do with how so much of Lucas's anti-NIxon fairytale has become integrated into American culture that even a RINO like Ronald Reagan would name his Cold War-era space program after the film, but it was the last of the films that had creativity guiding the way whereas the prequels, Rouge One and even Episode VII were based on pre-existing IP with scenarios and characters already being set in stone. This is one of the reasons I would give Barry Jenkins a pass for directing the next Lion King film, it's another case of Disney outsourcing an indie darling to direct one of their household franchises.   And yes, the editing in the film is perhaps the clunkiest of all the Star Wars films released up to that point in time being December 2017. Like Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk its imperfections carry the film. Johnston's gung ho about the female characters, perhaps making this film misandrist like The Force Awakens but the Johnston difference is that his logic behind the female character's motives proves to the audience that perhaps they were on the wrong as much as the men were, Holdo's "sacrifice" being a prime example. But I see that as just an unnecessary smoke screen because the key conflict of the film is between Rey and Luke, and that is where the movie shines.   Perhaps it the criticism of the Jedi the franchise sorely needed, and was warming up to since the release of The Phantom Menace. Folks, this is the last time Star Wars was remotely creative, it's all the Baby Yoda Show from there on out.
