I Walk the Line, 1970 - ★★½

For all intents and purposes everything about this film "fits", it's an intermingling of pieces that should create a dark, romantic portrait but what you discover while putting the pieces together is they are soggy and soft around all the edges. A ravaging heartfelt portrayal of a man split between his moral duties and love sounds like something timeless, unforgettable, and emotionally daunting, yet I Walk The Line struggles with a lack of romantic undertones and a final 30 minutes that emits nothing but a sigh.
