Hard Times, 1975 - ★★★★

I've always found it slightly amusing that Walter Hill followed this (a rather straightforward story about a dude fighting dudes in the Depression) and THE DRIVER (another relatively straightforward story about a getaway car driver) with THE WARRIORS and then (a couple of films later) STREETS OF FIRE, two films that are more ... I dunno, flamboyant and showy? It's not hard to draw a thematic line through these films (they're all, essentially, about dudes who rock) or anything, it's just very different realities the two pairs of films take place in. If that makes sense.
