Behind Enemy Lines, 2001 - ★★★½

I hadn’t watched this in ... oh, a decade. It’s really quite entertaining even if everything from the cutting to the knockoff The Crystal Method soundtrack place it firmly in 1999-2002. It’s still very weird to me that this and BLACK HAWK DOWN came out like two-to-four months after 9/11. I dunno why.

Is this the only major Hollywood movie aside from WAG THE DOG that deals with Bosnia? Even WAG really only does so tangentially.

God Hackman, etc. I don’t know that Owen Wilson is a credible action star insofar as he is clearly replaced by a double in any action sequence, but he is a genuine presence in all the non action sequences. Joaquim de Almeida was a top-tier 90s/early-00s villain between this, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, and DESPERADO.
