This was kind of dreadful, honestly. Big step down for Holliday as she is forced to make a caricature of her typical persona. Normally, she hits a sweet spot with her unique mix of naivety, charm, and urban street smarts. But this was more the personification of the โsqueaky wheel gets the grease.โ Sheโs an imbecile who lucks her way into everything, and so she comes across as unlikable when weโre supposed to root for her against the greedy capitalists. Itโs a naively political and underdeveloped premise with a cartoonish execution. Originally on Broadway, Hollidayโs role was written as a little old lady. That makes a lot more sense for the character.
