The Solid Gold Cadillac, 1956 - โ˜…ยฝ

This was kind of dreadful, honestly. Big step down for Holliday as she is forced to make a caricature of her typical persona. Normally, she hits a sweet spot with her unique mix of naivety, charm, and urban street smarts. But this was more the personification of the โ€œsqueaky wheel gets the grease.โ€ Sheโ€™s an imbecile who lucks her way into everything, and so she comes across as unlikable when weโ€™re supposed to root for her against the greedy capitalists. Itโ€™s a naively political and underdeveloped premise with a cartoonish execution. Originally on Broadway, Hollidayโ€™s role was written as a little old lady. That makes a lot more sense for the character.
