In This Our Life, 1942 - ★★½

Fascinating in the way Bette’s character Stanley expects everyone else’s will to bow to hers, and how that relates to her blatant racism. She is genuinely surprised when Parry will not take the blame for her, like it’s the most natural thing in the world. It’s a unique film. However, it is unfocused for about the first half until the accident happens. It’s also overly melodramatic when a colder, cleaner approach to the story could have worked better.
