As a fan of the original Dexter Series, You could imagine my disappointment with the direction the series took, especially after season 4. Really I gave up on Dexter after Season 5 and never looked back. But one day I stumbled upon a few episodes of Dexter New Blood in my friends laptop when i visited his house and decided to give it a world. Overall the series tones down on the humor, gore and dark comedic aspects that made the original interesting and invoking morbidly curiosity. This time there is much more focus on drama, character interactions, emotions and conflict. Although there are some serviceable kills and scenes of extreme intensity, they are few and far in between, most of the time you will be exploring dexter's struggle to come to terms with his past and learn to connect with his long lost son. There are def many cringe aspects to the series, the unnecessary inclusion POCs and gays in roles that could have just been easily played by white characters, especially in a small isolated town in the snowy wilderness, does threaten to break immersion from time to time. But the series puts Dexter and his struggles at the center of the narrative, combined with fascinating cinematography and appropriate soundtrack. If you can ignore the wokeness and reddit-tier marvel movie humor on occasion, the rest of the series def keeps you on the edge of your seat. Overall I give it a recommendation but dont pay for it.
