Watched the first 3 episodes. I was a fan of Terry Pratchett's discworld novels when I was a kid, and the 2000s tv specials, like the Hogfather and Going Postal. The irony laced characters that work in a parody of high fantasy, such as the Discworld novels, don't work in a low fantasy world like in Good Omens. The characters don't have the same comedic relief, and come off as very contrived, with no...
This is a movie for and of the year of its release, it uses buzz words and framing that are shallow and unavoidably left leaning. The direction of the action sequences is ok and the visuals and music are designed to be easy on the eyes and ears. The entire movie is a string of character profiles getting introduced into a very stagnate and sterile plot and setting; the film feels like its stuck in a...
Don't watch unless free, and don't see in theaters. In a nutshell, this is a service industry horror revenge fantasy. The dialogue written into the script conveys that to the audience in a very direct and blunt way. Every character was written to be hated and have cartoonishly weird character defects and egos for the sake of the macabre restaurant revenge art piece that Ralph Fienne's character is...
This film shows the audience a week in the life of Charlie, an online university English teacher. The camera basically never leaves the premises of his apartment, which he confines himself in due to his shut in obese gay guy lifestyle. The lighting in the apartment is done pretty well, but the camera work is stiff and not very dynamic; lots of shots of people's faces and cuts during conversations between...
I've run out of things to say about Star Wars. My reviews for episodes 1-5 contain everything I care to say about Episode 6. Real Rating: 3.6 Stars
A 'member the 80s Film from the 90s that has a few funny scenes that are almost totally eclipsed by cringe acting and jokes that fall flat. Would not recommend unless you're looking for a silly rom com loaded 80s top hit songs to put on as background noise
3.5 Stars The Dark Knight Rises has got to be the silliest instalment of the Dark Knight Trilogy, The more you think about any of the three films, the more silly internal logic you notice, but the final film takes the cake. It feels like Nolan wrote himself into a corner and had to try to craft a highest stakes epic finale that needed to cut corners to get 2 or 3 big budget wow scenes on screen
3.6 Stars Things that are of note about this adaptation of The Classic Revenge Story were the addition of Napoleon Bonaparte into the plot of the first segment of the film, the decision to Make Edmond Dantes and Fernand friends in an attempt by the screenwriters to make the betrayal delt by the latter more personal. I don't think these changes make the film any better, they just kind of adds more...
3.6 Stars A funny, corny and goofy, self aware Western genre parody, in mostly good ways; Mel Gibson's character, Maverick, has a recurring trait of throwing out quips decrying whites killing Native Americans and casting Native Americans as completely innocent non- combatants. The three main characters back and fourths with each other are pretty entertaining and funny and most of the film is pretty...
2.9 Stars A disjointed historical film that tries to cram too much emotion and impact into every scene and subplot. Just get two lead actors just weep in front of a camera and a mediocre script. Most of the technical aspects are par for a feature length production of this type, but there is an overuse of CGI cars and automotive accidents that really seem lazy for a film where the third main character...
3.1 Stars If you like hidden messages containing fragmented factoids spread out to allow a viewer to rationalize meaning from a typical A24 schizo subversion slop film, Under Silver Lake fits the bill. From what I could tell the decoded messages point to a "wow dude, money is such a heckin abstract concept and it makes people crazy", kind of takeaway. The subtext and themes are all a bunch of reddit...
A Movie, that is equal parts disgusting, funny. can be summed up as a surrealist nightmare crafted to make viewers laugh while being repulsed/offended
Over all a good movie on the technical side of things; directing, sound design, and image lab. Matt Reaves really put a lot of forethought into the cinematography. This dolby Cinematography interview will be interesting if you're into that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2GkwC6neiU The plot isn't bad ether, the are just a few mildly glaring simplistic plot elements to keep the pacing and tension...
This show's momentum comes from small revelations thrown to the audience about its mysterious and surreal setting. That being said the revelations start to have diminishing returns by episode 8. The more the world building is laid bare, suspension of disbelief suffers from the lack of logic in favor of suspense and emotional content.
Probably appeals more to a female audience, but is generally entertaining...
Just a well edited comedy film with a great soundtrack based on a true story. Enjoy
Pretty good property dispute film that's carried by some great actors at different points in their respective careers. Some of the script gets a little over dramatic and pretensious especially at the end
Strange film that was written by Paul Jarrico, who was blacklisted for his anti-American political leanings in the McCarthy era. Hosts some off color subjects for the time of its release, including Patrick McGoohan smoking doinks, and a mix race couple. Its loosely based off Othello, but I really just exists to showcase jazz of the time. Its like a proto-woke film in some sense of the phrase. Some...
Not too cutting edge for a docu-series, but its pretty interesting to watch. Like The Darkside of the Ring Vice Series, the episodes range from dynamic and interesting, to a hammed up overemotional reactionary tone
Nothing screams woke in this, and it's kind of got a nice classic aesthetic to it, but it never really comes into its own. There are lots of close up shots of actors faces speaking slow plot driven dialogue and drawn out tension punctuated by brief moments of violence
Used to be one of my favorite comedies as a kid. Watching it now I can see that its got good comedic timing at parts, but there are a lot of drawn out sequences and the verbose dialogue is where some of the jokes are flat. The screenplay was featured in the 2006 Blacklist, a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year. Some of the training materials and characters are based of real world counterparts. ...
